The 9th Nacala Development Corridor Management Committee Meeting is currently underway at the prestigious Bingu International Convention Centre, running from March 10 to 14.

During the inaugural session of the meeting, authorities from both nations firmly committed to expediting the OSBP initiative at the Dedza and Mwanza border posts. Officials celebrated the readiness of facilities completed on the Malawian side, while expressing optimism for the upcoming construction of OSBP buildings on the Mozambican side at Calomue and Zobue.

Her Excellency Wezi Moyo, Malawi’s High Commissioner to Mozambique, and His Excellency Alexandre Herculano Manjate, Mozambique’s High Commissioner to Malawi, formalized the agreements by signing the minutes from a previous meeting held last week.

The first three days of the meeting will feature a Joint Technical Committee (JTC) Meeting, where director-level discussions will occur. Participants will split into focused cluster meetings covering key areas such as Customs, Immigration, Trade and Industry, and others, including Climate and Pandemic Preparedness.

Each cluster is tasked with developing comprehensive reports and actionable plans for the next six months, which will be reviewed and approved by the JTC prior to submission to the Nacala Development Corridor Management Board.

This meeting represents a significant step toward enhancing trade facilitation, infrastructure development, and bilateral relations between Malawi and Mozambique, ultimately aiming at promoting economic growth and regional integration. Stakeholders are hopeful that the collaborative efforts will yield tangible results and benefits for both nations in the near future.
